On the other hand though, the strong flicker that was prevalent in the original has been completely eliminated. Sure the light changes just a little, but that can be really natural because of the over head moving clouds passing in front of the sun. Let's take this back up the the beginning and you'll see that the exposure has been completely evened out. In this case, though the tool has done and excellent job. For time lapse, this sort of tool's an absolute must, but if you also work with high frame rate or slow motion type shots, your going to see the same sort of flicker, particularly under indoor fluorescent lighting. But that's cause it's really analyzing the data it's looking at all of the shifts and exposure and this is really been stabilized nicely. Now, what you'll notice here is that it is going to take at bit longer to preview. It may seem odd, but running two passes of the filter can actually really solve problems. Now, let's just select that filter and press command or control D for a second instance. And you see now that the lighting changes have really been evened out thanks to the large time radius and the sensitivity that's easily being triggered. Let's go the other way here, bring up the threshold and lower the sensitivity so it's more susceptible. Still flickering, but it's really being triggered a little bit more aggressively. For example, archived old footage just really lowered the threshold here and the sensitivity and you see how it evened that out. Useful presets here can really help deal with some of the options. If I want, I can play with other settings here, for example, adjusting the sensitivity. In this case, we're still getting a little bit of flicker, but it has been improved. Detect motion is useful if you are dealing with something that has a lot of movement in the shot or cuts. I also suggest the all channels method so it really analyzes all the data and looks for shifts. The higher number looks at more adjacent frames. We could adjust the sensitivity and the time radius. The controls are pretty straight forward. This is an additional cost, but it works so well and I strongly recommend adding it to your toolbox. With the layer selected I'll go into my effects controls and I'm a apply the Digital Anarchy Flicker free. And we're just going to skip the first couple of frames. Now after effects does have the color stabilizer effect, but it's very difficult to use and a bit unpredictable. This flicker could be quite annoying and really leads to a distracting shot. Flicker can be caused by many different challenging situations from the lighting such as fluorescent lights or shooting slow motion or perhaps time-lapses where the camera settings weren't right or the lighting kept changing.
